[Ken Smith standing in a soybean field showing plants and pigweeds] A common practice in our soybean production has been plant our soybeans get a good stand and then come in a spray with Round-up. That’s worked very effectively until we’ve got Round-Up resistant pigweed.

Palmer Amaranth that is resistant does not respond to the glyphosate or to Round-Up so our inclination is to say we’re gonna put something with it, we’ll put in something like Flexstar.

An ideal application if our weeds are this tall, but if our weeds are this tall, Flexstar will not give you the control. We looked at weeds that were four to five inches tall last year in some of our research plots. We found no tank mix that was effective at controlling pigweed once they got four inches tall. That’s the situation we have here. We can see the burn, we see some distortion but no control of this pigweed, it will be here at harvest time.

The moral of the story is a residual herbicide at planting and early, early applications with Flexstar.
